Manchester United Pursue Tchouameni as Real Madrid Stand Firm
Manchester United have found their man. Real Madrid have no intention of letting him go.
Aurelien Tchouameni, the midfielder United view as the long-term heir to Casemiro, sits right at the heart of a transfer tug-of-war that may never truly begin. United have tracked the Frenchman for a long time, identifying him as the ideal anchor to rebuild their midfield after Casemiro’s departure and with Manuel Ugarte’s future up in the air.
The problem? Madrid’s answer is blunt: not for sale.
Since arriving from AS Monaco in 2022, Tchouameni has grown from promising signing to central pillar in the Bernabeu engine room. He is under contract until 2028 and protected by a staggering €1 billion release clause, a legal wall that says more about intent than practicality. Madrid are sending a message — this is a cornerstone, not a trading chip.
Club officials have already told United they will not even sit down at the table. The only scenario they would entertain is one they know all too well: the player himself asking to leave, as Casemiro did when he pushed through his move to Old Trafford in 2022. Even then, the price would be brutal. Any serious discussion would start at around €120 million.
Mourinho’s midfield general
The timing could hardly be worse for United. Jose Mourinho has walked back through the doors at the Bernabeu and, according to reports, he sees Tchouameni as a central piece of his new project.
Mourinho wants to build his midfield around the French international, not rip it up. That vision alone slams another door on United’s hopes. A manager of his profile does not arrive planning to lose one of his most reliable defensive operators.
Financially, the deal already looks heavy. Tchouameni is among Madrid’s top earners, on a package of around €15.5 million per year including bonuses. Matching that, then paying the kind of fee Madrid would demand, would stretch even a club of United’s size.
Instead of plotting an exit, Madrid are moving in the opposite direction. Early talks are said to be under way over a new contract that could run until 2031, with a pay rise to reflect his status. It’s not just a renewal; it’s a statement of ownership.
For now, United can only watch from a distance. Admiration is easy. Persuasion, in this case, looks almost impossible.
While United knock, Madrid eye a blockbuster
If Madrid are closing ranks around Tchouameni, they are opening the vault for Michael Olise.
The Spanish giants are reportedly ready to test Bayern Munich’s resolve with one of the biggest transfer offers the game has seen: a package worth up to €220 million. The proposed deal, according to reports, would include €190 million guaranteed and a further €30 million in performance-related bonuses.
That sort of figure drags Olise straight into the conversation with the most expensive transfers in history, brushing shoulders with Neymar’s move from Barcelona to PSG.
Inside Madrid, the belief is clear: Olise is the attacking profile to lift this squad to another level. His rise at Bayern over the past year, capped by standout displays at the FIFA World Cup, has turned long-standing interest into a full-blown priority. The club now view him as their main attacking target ahead of the new season.
Bayern hold the cards
There is, however, a familiar obstacle. Bayern do not need to sell.
The German champions know exactly what they have. Olise has become one of the most coveted forwards in Europe, and his form has only driven his value higher. They are under no financial pressure and are said to have little appetite for negotiations unless the numbers are truly extraordinary.
Any Real Madrid move, then, is unlikely to be quick or straightforward. This is shaping up as a drawn-out test of will and wallet.
From Madrid’s side, Olise fits perfectly with their current transfer strategy: young, elite, already proven on the biggest stages, with room to grow into a global face of the club. From Bayern’s side, only an offer that shatters normal market logic will even get them to the table.
So while Manchester United stare at a closed door marked “Tchouameni,” Real Madrid are preparing to kick open another at the very top of the market. The question now is simple: how far are they really prepared to go to land Olise — and how long can Bayern resist if €220 million arrives in writing?
