Liverpool's Ambitious Forward Reshuffle: Sarr and Minteh in Focus

Liverpool are pushing to reshape their forward line in the final hours of the window – and they are dreaming big.

Bradley Barcola is about to walk through the door from Paris Saint-Germain as the club’s marquee summer signing, but plans at Anfield stretch well beyond the France international. With the deadline looming at 11pm on Tuesday, Liverpool are working on another winger, a move that would unlock Cody Gakpo’s proposed £85m switch to Manchester City.

Gakpo had looked destined for Tottenham Hotspur earlier in the window. Then City arrived. The Etihad option changed everything for the Dutchman, who is now intent on joining Pep Guardiola’s side if Liverpool give the green light.

That decision hinges on what Liverpool can pull off in the next 36 hours.

Sarr the priority, Minteh the dream

Talks are active with Crystal Palace for Ismaila Sarr. Fabrizio Romano and other leading reporters have confirmed discussions, while GIVEMESPORT’s Ben Jacobs revealed on Sunday night that the Senegal winger is “pushing” Palace to sanction the move to Merseyside.

Palace are holding a firm line, but Liverpool’s preference is clear. Jacobs reports that, of the wide options under consideration, Sarr is the one they want most.

Even that, though, might not be the end of it.

Foot Mercato journalist El-Hadji Loum claims Liverpool’s ideal scenario is to land both Sarr and Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh before the window slams shut. The ambition is obvious. The complication is the budget.

Liverpool have already seen a £60m offer turned down for Minteh. To bring in both Sarr and the Brighton star at this stage would mean committing well over £100m in the final hours of the market. Loum stresses that the club’s finances will dictate whether that double swoop is realistic or remains just that – a dream.

Fixing an attack that has lost its edge

Liverpool’s urgency comes from a bruising recent past. Last season’s 2025-26 campaign fell well below expectations, and the new Premier League season has opened with back-to-back draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.

The attack no longer carries the same inevitability it once did, particularly after the departure of Mohamed Salah. The aura has faded. The goals have too.

Barcola’s arrival is one step towards a reset. Adding Sarr and Minteh on top would be something else entirely – a complete rewire of the front line. All three bring raw speed and a directness that can rip through defensive lines and stretch games in Liverpool’s favour.

That kind of pace does more than terrify full-backs. It creates room. It drags centre-backs wide, opens channels between the lines and frees up Liverpool’s creators and finishers to operate in cleaner spaces. The club believe it could be the platform for their other attacking talents to thrive again.

Minteh has already shown what that looks like in the Premier League. Senior sports writer Charlie Parker-Turner was glowing after watching him light it up for Brighton, posting that Kaoru Mitoma and Yankuba Minteh were “simply unstoppable” in a recent win, with Georginio Rutter knitting their threat together.

That is the kind of “explosion of pace” Liverpool want to import, the sort of surge that could transform their transition play and, with Andoni Iraola on the touchline, turn them back into genuine title contenders.

The clock is ticking. If Liverpool find the money and the nerve to land both Sarr and Minteh, the landscape at the top of the Premier League shifts in an instant. If they don’t, will they have enough firepower to chase down the teams already pulling away?
