Jamal Musiala Faces New Health Challenge After Collapses
Jamal Musiala’s latest scare did not come from a crunching tackle or a reckless challenge. It came out of nowhere.
Four days after collapsing on the pitch against RB Leipzig, the Bayern Munich playmaker went down again, this time in a friendly win over Heidenheim. The 23-year-old suddenly appeared dazed, needed urgent medical attention and was helped from the field, leaving team-mates, staff and fans frozen in concern.
This was no one-off incident. It was a pattern – and Bayern moved quickly.
Diagnosis after back-to-back collapses
Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed that the club is fully across the situation and backing Musiala through every step of it. The player then addressed the issue himself, revealing that doctors have diagnosed him with temporary, brief absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction.
To understand what that means in footballing terms, German outlet BILD turned to Prof. Christoph Kleinschnitz, head of neurology at the University Hospital Essen. His assessment underlined the seriousness of the symptoms but also offered a measure of reassurance.
“From a neurological perspective, this could potentially be an epileptic seizure. It could be a form of absence epilepsy, as symptoms such as brief periods of unresponsiveness are consistent with it,” he explained.
He stopped short of drawing final conclusions without full medical data.
“We would need to know all the findings from the neurological examinations to make that assessment. It is highly treatable, but would require long-term therapy. Musiala can continue playing football.”
That last sentence will echo loudly around Säbener Straße.
Another battle after brutal injuries
For Musiala, this health issue lands on top of a brutal recent injury history. The Bayern No. 10 is still trying to rediscover rhythm after a stop-start spell that ripped through his momentum.
He missed a significant portion of the 2025-26 campaign after a horrific sequence of injuries at the Club World Cup against Paris Saint-Germain: a fractured fibula combined with a dislocated and broken ankle. It was the kind of orthopaedic trauma that can change a career.
Now he has a second front to fight on. Balancing the physical recovery from those major leg injuries with the management of a newly diagnosed neurological condition becomes the central challenge of his season.
Doctors, though, are optimistic. Specialists express confidence that with proper, consistent long-term treatment, the seizures should not derail his professional career.
Bayern’s plans and Musiala’s future
Inside the club, the message is clear: Musiala will not be rushed, but he remains central to Bayern’s plans. With the midfielder reporting that he feels positive about his daily routine and medical care, the key question turns to timing. When will he be cleared to step back into competitive action?
Bayern want their creative heartbeat fully integrated again as they chase trophies on all fronts. A fit, stable Musiala changes the entire dynamic of their attack, and everyone at the club knows it.
For now, his circle is tight. Bayern, his family and his friends are locked in around him as he follows his treatment plan and waits for the final green light from the medical team.
Only when that arrives will the next chapter begin – and the Allianz Arena find out what version of Jamal Musiala walks back onto that pitch.
