Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua Set to Clash in Cardiff

The highly awaited boxing match between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has finally found a date and location, putting an end to months of speculation. After extensive talks about where and when the fight would happen, it appears the showdown will take place on December 11th at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Negotiations Over Location and Timing

Since both fighters signed their contracts in April, there was back-and-forth over the venue. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, insisted the fight remain in the UK, while TKO's Dana White pushed for a U.S. location, specifically Madison Square Garden. Joshua reportedly declined the offer to relocate, aiming to keep the event on British soil.

American sportswriter Dan Rafael shared the update on social media, confirming the December 11th date in Cardiff is close to being finalized. Other dates considered were November 28th and December 4th, but securing permits and final details may take some more time. Confirmation is expected soon as Hearn emphasized that White is not the promoter for this bout.

Fight Background and Recent Activity

This fight has been a long-standing goal for British boxing fans, with concerns it might never happen due to both boxers nearing the end of their careers. Each fighter took tune-up fights earlier this year to prepare. Fury stopped Mariusz Wach in seven rounds in July after defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov in April at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. After his win, Fury called out Joshua directly.

Joshua returned to the ring following a tragic car crash last December that claimed two of his friends’ lives. He knocked out Kristian Prenga in July despite suffering two knockdowns in the first round.

Promoters Clash Over Fight Control

The lead-up to the fight has seen more drama from promoters than the fighters themselves. Dana White accused Hearn of trying to block the fight and delay negotiations. Hearn responded by saying the contracts are already signed and urged White to respect them.

Hearn told iFL TV: "Dana White has tried to get involved in a fight that he has nothing to do with and to get Sela to break their contract, scrap a British fight, and bring it to America. He thinks that he’s not causing a problem in this fight? All we have ever done is said, ‘We’ve signed our contract. Just honour the contract that we’ve signed."

He added: "We’ve never done anything else and what he can’t get his head around is that Anthony Joshua won’t take a little bit more money to do the fight in America, because he cares. He cares where the fight is. He cares about British boxing, and he cares about the contract that he signed."

"And Dana White thinks you can throw a little bit of money at someone and they’ll dance to your f*cking tune. Well, guess what? Not on A.J.’s watch. That is why, unfortunately for these people, the fight will not be taking place in America, because Anthony Joshua is not a sellout."

Venue History and Broadcast Plans

The Principality Stadium, with a capacity of 74,000, has hosted major boxing events before, including Joshua's victory over Joseph Parker in 2018 and Joe Calzaghe’s win over Mikkel Kessler in 2007. To accommodate American viewers, the fight is expected to start late in the UK evening.
