Overview of Shubman Gill’s Leadership Journey

Shubman Gill has quickly become a significant leader in Indian cricket. Since taking over as Test captain in 2025, he has steered India to some memorable series results, including a series draw in England and wins against West Indies, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

His leadership was marked by a strong 165-run victory in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, boosting his tally to six wins in 10 Tests. Yet, the second Test ended in a draw after Sri Lanka batted resiliently on the final day, causing his win percentage as captain to dip slightly.

At just 26 years old, Gill has captained India in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is and has been leading the Gujarat Titans in the IPL since the 2024 season, guiding them to playoff appearances in 2025 and 2026.

The July 2026 series against England saw mixed results: a promising first-match win followed by two losses.
