Novak Djokovic says he is feeling well ahead of his first match at the China Open, marking his return to competition following a surprising early exit at the US Open. The Serbian star, seeded sixth in Beijing, is set to face Nuno Borges in his opening match.

First Tournament Since US Open Defeat

Djokovic’s recent defeat came in the first round of the US Open, where he was unexpectedly beaten by Mariano Navone. Besides singles, Djokovic also participated in a mixed doubles match alongside WTA standout Aryna Sabalenka. This tournament in Beijing is his first event since then.

Speaking to reporters in Beijing, Djokovic shared insights about his physical condition and preparation since the US Open loss. He said,

"Yeah, feeling good so far. Let’s see. Obviously it’s completely different when you’re playing an official match compared to practice sets or sessions. But so far so good."

He added that returning to China brings him confidence given his past successes there. "My record speaks for itself on Chinese soil," he noted, expressing his excitement to compete again after some time away.

The history of my results on Chinese soil has been incredible. I haven’t played here in 11 years. The schedule in previous years only allowed me to play Shanghai, but this year Beijing was a priority. I’m really glad to be here."
