Rio Ferdinand Urges Arsenal to Sign Marcus Rashford for £40 Million
Rio Ferdinand has urged Arsenal to pounce on what he sees as one of the bargains of the summer: Marcus Rashford at £40 million.
The former Manchester United defender believes the England forward, currently facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, would be a shrewd piece of business for Mikel Arteta as the Gunners reshape their attack.
Rashford at a crossroads
Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona and did what he needed to do: he impressed. His pace, direct running and ability to operate across the front line gave the Spanish side another dimension, but it still wasn’t enough to earn a permanent move.
Barcelona have gone in a different direction. Anthony Gordon has arrived to bolster their wide options, and Karim Adeyemi could yet follow. With those additions, Rashford’s path in Catalonia has effectively closed.
That leaves Manchester United with a decision to make. They can bring him back into the fold, or they can cash in while his market value remains strong. For the first time in years, the club is openly prepared to consider the latter.
Arsenal are watching.
Arsenal’s wide rebuild
Arteta’s squad is braced for change out wide. Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are both expected to move on this summer, stripping away two of the manager’s established options on the flanks and leaving a clear need for fresh quality in the attacking department.
Rashford ticks a lot of boxes. He is an England international with big-game experience, capable of playing off either wing or through the middle. Even at a World Cup where he has not featured as heavily as anticipated, he remains one of the standout attacking talents in the squad.
For a club that wants versatility and depth across the front line, that profile is hard to ignore.
Ferdinand: “I’m taking Rashford”
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand did not hesitate when co-host Stephen Howson floated Arsenal as a possible destination.
“I’m taking Rashford,” Ferdinand declared.
“For 40 million, I am sweeping Marcus Rashford off his feet.”
No caveats. No doubt about the value. For Ferdinand, that fee for a player of Rashford’s pedigree is an opportunity a club like Arsenal should not let pass.
His stance underlines a wider feeling in parts of the game: if Rashford is genuinely available at that price, someone near the top of the Premier League should move quickly.
A window that could define careers
For now, it remains speculation. Manchester United have not pushed him out of the door, and Arsenal have not yet made their move. But the links persist, and the logic behind them is clear.
United are weighing up whether to reshape their attack. Arsenal are actively doing it. Rashford, at 28 and with a point to prove after his Barcelona spell and limited World Cup minutes, sits right between those two projects.
If Arsenal decide to act, this could be the transfer that alters the trajectory of a player, a forward line, and perhaps even a title race.
