The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has officially confirmed Istanbul as the host city for the 2027 Spanish Super Cup. The tournament, scheduled from 2 to 6 February, will feature Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, and Real Sociedad competing across three renowned Turkish stadiums.

Agreement Signed in Turkey

On Thursday, RFEF president Rafael Louzan formalized the deal in Istanbul, marking a significant shift as Istanbul replaces Saudi Arabia, which withdrew due to a scheduling conflict with the Asian Cup. This four-team event brings together La Liga champions Barcelona, Copa del Rey winners Real Sociedad, alongside Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

"Today we are presenting much more than an agreement to organise a competition. It is rather the relationship between two countries that live football with extraordinary passion. Football has that virtue and responsibility: it unites countries and brings cultures closer," said Louzan during his speech at the Turkish Football Federation headquarters.

Stadiums Hosting the Matches

• 2 February:Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid at Chobani Stadium (Fenerbahce) – 48,000 capacity
• 3 February:Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid at Besiktas Tupras Stadium – 42,590 capacity
• 6 February (Final): at Ali Sami Yen Stadium (Galatasaray) – 52,000 capacity

Combined, these venues can accommodate around 150,000 spectators, setting the stage for a thrilling series of matches.

Financial Impact and Future Prospects

This move to Istanbul continues the RFEF's profitable approach to the Super Cup's modern format. The previous edition in Saudi Arabia generated €51 million, shared among participating clubs and grassroots football in Spain.
