Enzo Fernández’s Chelsea Future Heating Up

Alonso stressed that Fernández has stayed professional despite the noise around his future, pointing to his attitude in training and hinting this was about rotation rather than rupture.

“It was simply because of today’s match. We have other players who need minutes,” he explained. Asked when he had decided to leave the World Cup winner out, Alonso did not hesitate: “Wednesday afternoon. It was a decision I made myself.”

The message was clear: this was about managing minutes and the specific demands of facing Luton, not about pushing Enzo towards the door. At least, not officially.

“Enzo is a good professional. He is training well and I have nothing to say about that,” Alonso added. “They are simply decisions we have to make with the match we were playing tonight in mind. We’ll see on Sunday.”

That “we’ll see” lands at an awkward moment. In England, reports suggest Manchester City are weighing up a move for the midfielder before the transfer window closes. A player who already wanted out, suddenly absent from a cup squad, while the champions circle.

On Sunday, Brighton come to Stamford Bridge. Alonso says the door is open for Enzo’s return. The real question is whether the next time Fernández walks out at the Bridge, it will be in Chelsea blue – or as a visitor.
