Danilo Sets Farewell Date at Flamengo for 2027

Danilo has set a clear date for his farewell and a clear place for it too: 2027, at Flamengo.

The veteran defender, speaking at a press conference at Flamengo’s Ninho do Urubu training ground, opened up about why his contract situation has taken time to advance and why the next deal will almost certainly be his last.

He pointed back to the demands of international football and a packed calendar.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining how his energy was consumed by the national team before he could properly sit down with club directors.

Only now, he admitted, has he finally been able to breathe and look ahead.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

The message was firm: this next chapter is about closing the circle.

Danilo, who built a glittering European career with Real Madrid and Manchester City before returning to Brazil, underlined that talks with Flamengo are on the right track. No drama. No stand-off. Just alignment.

He described the negotiations as calm and constructive, stressing that both sides are pulling in the same direction and that there have been no obstacles so far.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

That phrase – “club of my heart” – framed the entire conversation. This is not just about one more contract; it is about choosing the stage and the colours for his final act.

Danilo made it clear he sees no major hurdles in the way of an agreement.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening, and hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy - that would be wonderful.”

The objective for that last dance is as ambitious as ever: end a long career with a major title in red and black.
