Chelsea Eyes Bissouma as Enzo Replacement in Transfer Market

Chelsea’s midfield reshuffle did not end with Enzo Fernandez’s record-breaking exit – it immediately sparked another opportunity.

According to reports, the London club were offered former Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma as a potential replacement for the Argentina international, who joined Manchester City for £125m in the summer. The ex-Mali star, now 30, left Spurs in the same window and was floated to Chelsea as a ready-made option to plug the gap left by Enzo’s departure.

Chelsea looked at the market. So did City.

Both clubs are understood to have shown interest in Crystal Palace’s rising talent Adam Wharton before the transfer deadline. The 22-year-old England midfielder has quickly become central to Palace’s plans, and the club acted like it. Every bid was rejected, with Palace standing firm despite late pressure from some of the Premier League’s biggest spenders.

The chase for creative wide players is also intensifying.

Aston Villa, Manchester City and Newcastle United are all monitoring Spain winger Alex Baena. The 25-year-old has emerged as a serious target, but Atletico Madrid are reported to have no intention of cashing in, shutting down any notion of an easy deal before it can gather pace.

Wolves, meanwhile, came close to a significant sale of their own.

Portugal Under-21 forward Mateus Mane attracted serious admirers, with Liverpool and Manchester United both keen on the 18-year-old before the window closed. Wolves could have sanctioned a move, but ultimately the teenager stayed put, leaving two of England’s heavyweights to bide their time.

At Arsenal, the next move may come from Spain.

The Gunners are weighing up a £68m bid for Barcelona winger Raphinha in January. The 29-year-old Brazil international remains a long-standing target, and Arsenal are considering whether a major winter offer could finally tempt Barca into doing business.

Across north London, Tottenham are facing a very different kind of decision with another Brazilian.

Richarlison’s future looks increasingly uncertain, with Spurs considering the drastic step of paying up the 29-year-old forward’s contract to allow him to leave on a free transfer. Once seen as a key figure in attack, he is now firmly out of favour and edging towards the exit.

Everton also tried to land a new striker in the final hours of the window – and went big.

The Toffees made a verbal offer worth £40m plus £5m in add-ons to West Ham for Argentine forward Taty Castellanos on deadline day. The 27-year-old was high on their list, but the move came too late for West Ham to sign off on his departure, killing the deal before it could get over the line.

The window has closed, but the stories clearly haven’t. The question now is who blinks first when January comes back into view.
