Barcelona Targets Karim Adeyemi with Opening Bid

Karim Adeyemi is back on Barcelona’s radar, and this time the Catalan club believes the numbers might finally add up.

The Borussia Dortmund winger has been a long-standing target for Jorge Mendes, who has tried on several occasions to steer the German towards Camp Nou. Those efforts repeatedly ran aground on Barcelona’s salary-cap restrictions. The deal was interesting, the finances were not.

Now the landscape has shifted. Operating under La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule, Barça see a window that simply did not exist in previous summers. Mendes sees it too and considers Adeyemi a market opportunity: a 22-year-old with Champions League pedigree, one year left on his deal, and a club under pressure to sell.

Barça move first

Barcelona have made their intention clear. They want Adeyemi as an experienced wide option to go alongside, not instead of, the younger Roony Bardghji. The plan is depth and variety, not another headline replacement.

Once it became evident that Dortmund were struggling to generate a bidding war, Barça stepped in. Convinced the player could be prised away for what they deem a reasonable figure, the club have gone from sounding out the situation to putting money on the table.

According to Sky Germany, relayed by SPORT, Barcelona have lodged an opening offer: €20 million up front, plus a sizeable sell-on percentage in any future transfer. No handshake yet, but the first card has been played and talks are expected to continue in the coming days.

A €40m valuation under strain

The gap, though, is obvious.

Dortmund still value Adeyemi at around €40 million. Barcelona think that number belongs to a different phase of the market and a different stage of the player’s career. One year left on his contract. No guaranteed starting role last season. Two campaigns of inconsistent form. The leverage is eroding, and both clubs know it.

As the window has dragged on, Dortmund have already trimmed their expectations, yet a definitive agreement remains elusive. The German side have been ready to sell, just not at Barcelona’s price.

Pressure is building in the Ruhr. Adeyemi has reached an agreement on personal terms with Barcelona, weakening Dortmund’s hand further. The longer this stalemate runs, the clearer it becomes that the Bundesliga club must decide: hold firm on valuation or cash in before a key asset walks away for nothing next summer.

Player swaps on the table

One way out of the deadlock is obvious: players.

Both clubs are exploring the possibility of including a footballer in the package to drag the fixed fee down to a level Barcelona can stomach and Dortmund can accept.

Roony Bardghji has already been mentioned in Germany. The young winger, whose future at Barcelona remains unresolved, is keen to find a club where he can play regularly and grow inside a competitive, trophy-chasing environment. Dortmund, with their track record of polishing young attacking talents, are an attractive option.

Another name admired in Dortmund’s corridors is Guille Fernández, the attacking midfielder from Barça Atletic, also represented by Mendes. The German club asked about him in January but talks fizzled out before reaching any real breakthrough. His profile, though, has not been forgotten.

Both Bardghji and Fernández offer Dortmund something they value: upside, development potential, and a path to future profit. For Barcelona, they offer flexibility, a way to bridge the financial gap without ripping up their own transfer plans.

The pieces are on the board. Barcelona have made their move. Dortmund hold out for a higher fee. Adeyemi waits, with one year left on his contract and a clear preference already agreed.

How long can Dortmund resist before the market, and the clock, force their hand?
