Wrexham Ready for Championship Clash Against Swansea City

Phil Parkinson insists Wrexham will walk out at Swansea City on Saturday as a very different Championship animal to the one that left south Wales bruised last season.

Wrexham were edged 2-1 by Mitor Matos’ side in December, a defeat that stung but did not derail them. They recovered to post their best finish of the modern era, ending the 2025-26 campaign in seventh place and announcing themselves as serious second-tier contenders.

Now the stakes are higher. Swansea sit top of the Championship, 10 points from a possible 12 and setting the early pace. They host Wrexham under the lights at 20:00 BST, a meeting of the leaders and a team determined to prove they belong in that company.

Parkinson is convinced the evidence is already there. He points straight at midweek.

A year ago, Wrexham went to Millwall and won 2-0. Impressive enough. This time they went back and dismantled them 3-0.

“Absolutely,” Parkinson said when asked if his side are better equipped than on their last trip to Swansea. “The Millwall game is a good example of that, where we won 2-0 down there last year and we beat them 3-0 this year.

“But they were very different games in terms of the control we had in the game this time around.

“We looked to a more accomplished Championship side this time around. The players have got used to the level and of course we've added quality into the group.”

That word – control – is what separates this Wrexham from last season’s version. Back then, they were fighting to prove they could live with the division’s heavyweights. Now they are trying to dictate to them.

Swansea away will test that conviction again. Top of the table, at home, confident. Wrexham arrive believing they are no longer just visitors chasing an upset, but a seasoned Championship side ready to trade blows with the leaders.
