Wolves' New Squad Under the Microscope for Promotion Push

The transfer window has closed, the dust has barely settled, and already the questions are piling up around Wolves.

On BBC Radio WM, Mike Taylor sat down with former Wolves striker David Kelly to pull apart the club’s summer business – and what it really means for a promotion push from the Championship.

The headline concern is simple enough: numbers. Wolves have assembled a big squad, bodies in almost every position, but quantity is only half the story. Taylor and Kelly weighed up whether there is enough hardened Championship know-how in that group to drag the club back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

“This might be a promotion squad – the only thing that we can say for the moment, is it is not what we were anticipating,” he said, capturing the mood of a fanbase still trying to work out exactly what this team is.

He doubled down on that point, stressing that unexpected does not automatically mean unsuccessful.

“That doesn’t mean it will necessarily be bad. We’ll know that in a few weeks, but it is not what we were expecting. It just isn’t.”

So Wolves head into the new campaign with a large, reshaped dressing room, a fanbase full of questions, and a Championship season that will quickly reveal whether this surprise package has the steel – and the experience – to turn uncertainty into promotion.
