Victor Valdepenas Joins Fiorentina from Real Madrid

Real Madrid have drawn a sharp line under Victor Valdepenas’ time at Valdebebas, confirming the sale of the highly rated Castilla defender to Fiorentina in a deal worth eight million euros.

The 19-year-old left-back, an academy product who has been on the club’s books since the age of 11, signs a contract with the Viola that runs until 2031. It is a statement of faith from the Italians in a player still largely unknown to the wider public, but well regarded inside Madrid’s youth setup.

This is not a clean break, though. Madrid have surrendered the player but not the prospect. The Spanish giants retain 50 per cent of any future sale, a clear indication they believe Valdepenas could grow into a far more valuable asset in the coming years.

His first-team career in Spain barely had time to start. According to Spanish newspaper “Marca”, Valdepenas made just a single La Liga appearance last season, coming off the bench under Xabi Alonso against Deportivo Alaves. One brief taste of the Bernabeu stage, then the door to Serie A opens.

The timing is striking. The agreement lands on the eve of a friendly between Real Madrid and Fiorentina, a showcase that now carries an extra subplot: the teenager swapping white for purple just as the two clubs meet.

In their official statement, Madrid wrapped the move in the language of gratitude and continuity. They recalled how Valdepenas joined in 2018 at the age of 11, spent six seasons in the youth ranks, broke through for his senior debut last season and lifted the UEFA Youth League along the way. The club thanked him for his commitment and extended their best wishes to him and his family for this new stage of their lives.

For Valdepenas, that stage is Florence, a new league and a long contract that offers both security and expectation. For Madrid, it is another example of a modern academy strategy: sell early, bank the fee, and keep a stake in whatever comes next.
