Tottenham's Transfer Frenzy: De Zerbi on Sávio and Marmoush

Tottenham’s transfer frenzy shows no sign of slowing, and Roberto De Zerbi is loving every second of it.

Spurs have pulled off a blockbuster double deal for Sávio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, a move that sends their summer spending soaring beyond £350 million. Sávio arrives in an £85m package, while Marmoush joins on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy that could climb to £60m.

For a club already deep into one of the most aggressive windows in its recent history, this was a statement. De Zerbi, though, wasn’t talking about balance sheets. He was talking about firepower.

“I think Sávio and Marmoush are bomba,” he said ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Newcastle. “I don't know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure.”

The Italian has been given the kind of backing managers dream about, yet even he sounds slightly taken aback by the scale of the rebuild.

“I didn't expect one transfer market and one window like we have done,” De Zerbi admitted.

Still, Tottenham are not done. Not yet.

De Zerbi revealed that the club are pushing to add at least one more signing before Tuesday night’s deadline, targeting a specific position that he declined to name. Talks with the hierarchy have been intense but, by his account, harmonious.

“I think we can do one player more and in one specific position,” he said. “But yesterday we went for dinner with the owners, with Vinai [Venkatesham], with Johan [Lange] and with Enrico [Venturelli]. We spoke about this, but we have all of us on the same page and there is a very good connection.”

That unity has translated into a clear plan in attack. Marmoush arrives with numbers that command respect: 37 goals in a prolific spell at Eintracht Frankfurt and 16 at Manchester City. He steps into a frontline that has been stretched, with James Maddison not fully fit and Mohammed Kudus only just returning from injury.

For De Zerbi, the Egyptian international is not just another body. He is a weapon.

“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” De Zerbi said. “We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack. We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy.”

Sávio, Marmoush, a squad rebuilt at huge cost, and at least one more signing still in the works. Tottenham have loaded the gun. The question now is how far De Zerbi can fire this team in a season that suddenly looks anything but quiet.
