Tottenham Secure Omar Marmoush Loan with Obligation to Buy

Tottenham are closing in on another major attacking signing, with Omar Marmoush set for a medical after Spurs and Manchester City agreed a big-money loan deal with an obligation to buy.

The Egyptian forward will join initially on loan, but Standard Sport understands Spurs are committed to an obligation worth £50million, with £5m in guaranteed add-ons and a further £5m in additional performance-related payments. It is a package that underlines how firmly Tottenham see Marmoush as part of their long-term frontline, not a short-term stopgap.

He is expected to sign a four-year contract in north London, with the option of a further 12 months, locking him in for what Spurs hope will be the peak years of his career.

Separate from Savio – but same statement of intent

The move is unrelated to the £85m arrival of his former Manchester City team-mate Savio, who completed his switch to Spurs on Tuesday. The Brazilian is already available to make his debut in the Carabao Cup second-round tie at home to Charlton tonight, as Roberto De Zerbi’s side begins to take on a very different look.

Marmoush’s deal also comes with no sell-on clause owed to his previous club Eintracht Frankfurt, despite reports to the contrary. The financial commitment belongs solely to Spurs and City.

A striker with a point to prove

Marmoush arrives after a frustrating season in which he struggled for rhythm and regular starts. He made only eight Premier League starts last term, though he still managed eight goals in 36 appearances across all competitions.

That return, from limited minutes, has convinced Spurs that there is far more to come. Marmoush heads to north London believing he can force his way past Richarlison and Dominic Solanke to become De Zerbi’s first-choice centre-forward.

He only joined City in January 2025 and initially impressed, but his momentum faded and he quickly slipped down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola’s squad. Tottenham are betting that consistent game time and a central role in De Zerbi’s aggressive, front-foot system can unlock the version of Marmoush that briefly lit up the Premier League.

Spurs’ spending passes £300m

The deal pushes Tottenham’s lavish summer even further into blockbuster territory. With Marmoush added to the arrivals of Savio, Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, Spurs’ outlay has already surged beyond £300m.

It is a clear message. De Zerbi will not be short of weapons. The question now is whether Marmoush can turn this expensive leap of faith into the defining move of his career.
