Liverpool Faces Setback in Ismaïla Sarr Transfer Pursuit

Liverpool’s search for a successor to Mohamed Salah has hit another wall, with Crystal Palace standing firm over Ismaïla Sarr.

The Anfield club sounded out Palace over the Senegal international as they stepped up efforts to land a right-winger before the transfer window shuts. Reports from Fabrizio Romano claimed Liverpool had tabled a bid of €58.4 million for the winger, though The Athletic countered that no official offer had actually been lodged.

What is clear: Liverpool asked the question. Palace gave a blunt answer. Sarr is not for sale.

Palace Hold Their Ground

Crystal Palace’s stance has hardened over the summer. Galatasaray tried twice to prise Sarr away, seeing both bids rejected, and the Turkish side are not expected to come back with a third proposal.

Now Liverpool have arrived at the same closed door.

Andoni Iraola and his recruitment team had initially set their sights on Yankuba Minteh, only to walk away when Brighton’s valuation soared. The Seagulls were understood to want around €90 million for the 19-year-old, a figure that pushed Liverpool to look elsewhere and brought Sarr into sharper focus.

The pressure to find a solution on the right flank is growing. The clock is ticking. Palace know it, and they’re still not budging.

A Complicated Summer on the Right

Liverpool’s attempts to reshape their attack without Salah have turned into one of the sagas of the window. A string of right-sided forwards have been assessed, contacted, or discussed.

Minteh was one. PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye has been heavily talked about inside the club. Now Sarr has emerged as the latest serious target, even if Palace’s refusal has stalled any progress.

It underlines just how tricky it has become to replace Salah’s output and presence. Every conversation seems to start with a premium price or a flat refusal. Sometimes both.

Sarr’s Stock Soars After Palace Heroics

Sarr’s appeal is obvious. At 28, he brings experience and end product. He has already racked up 116 Premier League appearances and played a central role in Palace’s Europa Conference League triumph.

Twenty-one goals in that campaign for the Eagles pushed his reputation to a new level and made outside interest inevitable. Perform like that in Europe, and bigger clubs will circle. Liverpool are simply the latest predator in the airspace.

Right now, though, Palace are protecting their asset and sending a message: if Sarr leaves, it will be on their terms, not under late-window pressure.

Barcola Talks Add Another Twist

Liverpool are not limiting themselves to one profile. Talks are also ongoing with PSG over Bradley Barcola, whose preferred role is on the left rather than the right.

It points to a broader attacking reshuffle rather than a like-for-like Salah replacement. Flexibility, rotation, different angles of threat – all on the table.

The question is whether Liverpool can land at least one of their key targets before the window slams shut, or if this summer’s search for a new right flank talisman ends with more frustration than fireworks.
