Liverpool Submit Opening Bid for Ismaila Sarr

Liverpool have made their move.

The Anfield club have lodged an opening bid for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr as they accelerate plans to reshape their attack before next week’s transfer deadline.

Liverpool change lanes in winger hunt

A wide forward sits right at the top of Andoni Iraola’s wishlist. Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna, but he is not seen as the direct heir to Mohamed Salah, who walked away from Anfield at the end of last season and left a gaping hole on the right.

For weeks, Liverpool had pushed hard for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh. Two bids went in, one understood to be in the region of £60 million, and both were turned away by the Seagulls. Talks dragged, then stalled over the weekend. The move lost momentum.

Now the focus has snapped onto Sarr.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have submitted an offer worth around £50 million to Crystal Palace and opened talks at club level. Crucially, they already have Sarr’s approval. The winger is described as keen to join the Merseyside club and step into a Champions League-chasing environment.

Palace dig in over key man

Whether Palace play ball at that price is another matter. The Eagles have already rejected two bids from Galatasaray for Sarr earlier in the summer and view him as a central figure in their plans.

Sarr’s importance is obvious. He hit nine league goals in 28 appearances last season, including one against Liverpool in a Palace win at the start of the campaign – a performance that will not have been forgotten at Anfield.

His contract runs until 2029, a long-term deal that leaves Palace under no immediate financial pressure to sell. That security strengthens their hand at the negotiating table, even as the player’s stance grows more complicated.

Because Sarr, by all accounts, wants out before the window closes.

Tension grows before deadline

The tension around his future was already visible on the opening weekend. Sarr was left out of the Palace squad that lost to Everton, officially due to a minor injury.

After the defeat, new Palace manager Pierre Sage tried to draw a line under the speculation, stressing both the medical decision and the club’s stance on a sale.

“The doctor, the player and I took the decision before our training session yesterday to let him have treatment,” Sage said. “We don’t want him to leave, he is under contract with us for three years and he will be with us on Monday. That’s the most important information for me and for you.”

Palace, then, are publicly firm. Sarr, privately, is eager. Liverpool are at the table with a substantial first bid and a clear need in his position.
