Tottenham Faces Leadership Shake-Up as Romero Joins Atletico

Tottenham’s summer took a sharp turn on Saturday morning as the club confirmed Cristian Romero’s departure to Atletico Madrid, a move that forces Roberto De Zerbi to rip up his leadership blueprint before a ball has been kicked.

Inter move closes in for Spence

Tottenham are braced to confirm a second departure at the back, with Djed Spence on the verge of joining Inter.

Spence was photographed in Milan earlier in the week as the Serie A champions closed a deal worth around £25.6million, and Italian outlet Gazzetta reported that the defender has passed his medical and signed a long-term contract running until 2031.

The agreement is not fully tied up yet. Spence is expected to return to London to complete work permit procedures before the transfer can be officially rubber-stamped, but from Inter’s perspective the heavy lifting is done.

Once that move is over the line, De Zerbi and the Spurs hierarchy will pivot from patching up their defence to sharpening their attack.

The club have been linked with Folarin Balogun, Cody Gakpo and Savinho as they look to add firepower before the window closes. The interest in Savinho has been a constant theme of their summer, with the Brazilian winger viewed as a key attacking target.
