Crystal Palace Signs Anan Khalaili for £21 Million

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of Anan Khalaili from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in a deal worth around £21 million, rising with add-ons, as Pierre Sage continues his rapid reshaping of the squad in south London.

The 21-year-old Israel international arrives on a five-year contract, with Palace holding an option for a further year. He comes in as a right-sided wing-back, but with the versatility to push higher up the flank when required – a profile that fits neatly into Sage’s aggressive, front-foot approach.

“I’m happy to be here, I’m excited, and I can’t wait to start,” Khalaili said after sealing the move. “I’ve followed the Premier League – it’s a new challenge for me – and I’ve followed Crystal Palace for a long time. I’m happy to be here.”

Sage’s rebuild gathers pace

Khalaili is the fifth signing under new manager Sage, who has wasted little time putting his stamp on the squad. Dwight McNeil arrived in a swap deal that saw Brennan Johnson depart, while Oscar Mingueza, Evann Guessand and Takehiro Tomiyasu have also been brought in to strengthen key areas.

The right side of Palace’s defence badly needed attention. Maxence Lacroix has already gone to Chelsea, Danny Imray has joined Championship side Wrexham, and long-serving Nathaniel Clyne left when his contract expired. With the club also exploring a move for Daniel Munoz, Khalaili’s arrival gives Sage a badly needed option in a position that had started to look alarmingly thin.

This is not a speculative punt. Khalaili comes off the back of a landmark season with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, where he helped the club secure a first top-flight title in 90 years. He also announced himself on the European stage, scoring three times in the Champions League as USG added the Belgian Cup to their historic campaign.

A quiet arrival, loudly received

By the time Palace made the transfer official, Khalaili was hardly a secret. He had already linked up with his new team-mates on their training camp in Germany, spotted by sharp-eyed supporters wearing Palace gear and mixing with the squad.

He embraced it. The new signing spent time signing autographs and posing for photos, prompting the club’s social media team to play along with a teasing post: “Anyone got a spare autograph book laying around” went the tongue-in-cheek message on Saturday morning, hours before the announcement dropped.

The move fits the mood around Selhurst Park. After a flat opening to pre-season with a 3-0 defeat to Bromley, Sage has steadied things with back-to-back wins, 3-1 over Ula and 2-1 against Fulham. Performances have sharpened, the squad is being reshaped, and key gaps are being filled.
