Sheffield United Sign Veteran Forward Jordan Ayew

Sheffield United have moved to bolster their attack with the signing of veteran forward Jordan Ayew on a deal until the end of the season.

The 34-year-old arrives at Bramall Lane as a free agent after leaving Leicester City in the summer, following the Foxes’ relegation to League One. His departure ended a short and difficult spell at the King Power, but not his appetite for English football.

Ayew’s CV is heavy with top-level experience. Since joining Aston Villa from Lorient in 2015, he has spent the last 11 years across the Premier League and Championship, turning out for Villa, Crystal Palace and Leicester. Now he drops into another battle, this time to help Chris Wilder navigate a demanding campaign.

Wilder's Comments

Wilder made no attempt to play down the significance of the signing.

"We're talking about someone here with bags of experience from right at the top level of the game," the Blades boss told the club’s website. "Only a few months ago he was captaining Ghana in the World Cup, so he's someone with real pedigree.

"He did well at this level last season in difficult circumstances and has played all across the front positions during his career which gives us plenty of options."

International Record

Ayew’s international record underlines that pedigree. He has earned 124 caps for Ghana, a figure that places him among his country’s most seasoned performers, and has carried the armband on the biggest stage.

For Sheffield United, this is a short-term deal with clear intent: add know-how, versatility and a hardened professional to a forward line that needs guidance as much as goals. Now it is over to Ayew to show that, even at 34, he still has one more decisive chapter to write in English football.
