Eli Junior Kroupi Shortlisted for Men's Young Talent of the Year

Eli Junior Kroupi’s rise has been paused, not stopped.

The Bournemouth forward has been shortlisted for the Men's Young Talent of the Year award ahead of the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, recognition of a breakout season that turned heads across the Premier League before injury halted his momentum.

At 20, Kroupi stands among elite company. He is one of three Premier League players named in the 10-man shortlist, joining Manchester City’s Ayyoub Bouaddi and Aston Villa’s Johan Manzambi in a field stacked with emerging stars from across Europe. For a player who only made his Bournemouth debut in August 2025, it is a rapid ascent.

The numbers back it up. Across all competitions last season, Kroupi played 35 times and scored 13 goals, quickly becoming a focal point of Bournemouth’s attack. He finished the 2025-26 campaign as the top-scoring teenager in a debut Premier League season, outpacing every other first-year youngster in the division.

That surge has made his current absence all the more frustrating. A foot injury suffered in pre-season, followed by surgery, has kept him sidelined so far this term. Bournemouth have had to plan without him, while his own progress has been forced into a holding pattern. The expectation is that he will return in October or November, just as the schedule begins to tighten and the season’s shape becomes clearer.

By then, the spotlight may burn even brighter. The Men's Young Talent of the Year award will be one of the prizes handed out at the 70th Ballon d'Or ceremony in London on Monday, 26 October.

Whether Kroupi walks away with the trophy or not, his name is already in the conversation that every young player wants to be part of.
