Sevilla Targets Ellyes Skhiri Amid Frankfurt Midfield Shuffle

Sevilla’s late-summer rebuild is gathering speed, and Ellyes Skhiri has suddenly stepped into the frame.

The Tunisia international, currently on the fringes at Eintracht Frankfurt, is being lined up for a potential move to La Liga as the Germans look to cash in before his contract runs down at the end of next season. Spanish outlet Marca reports that Sevilla are working across several fronts in the final stretch of the window, and midfield is firmly on the agenda.

The top of the shopping list, though, remains clear: a striker. Sevilla are locked in negotiations to bring in Ruben Vargas as the spearhead of their attack, with the club determined to land an out-and-out No 9 before the league campaign begins.

While that saga rumbles on, the picture in midfield is becoming more crowded. German reports have highlighted Sevilla’s interest in Skhiri, who is now considered a genuine candidate to leave Frankfurt. His situation has hardened in recent days. According to Sky Sport Germany, Frankfurt have effectively frozen him out of the squad after reinforcing the middle of the park with Rafael Onyedika. With competition heightened, the Bundesliga side are now keen to trim numbers, and Skhiri is one of the obvious saleable assets.

Sevilla are already in talks to sign Giorgi Kochorashvili, and Skhiri is viewed as a complementary piece rather than a direct alternative. The plan would be to reshape the midfield with multiple profiles: Kochorashvili as one key addition, the Tunisian as another layer of depth and experience.

Skhiri brings pedigree. He featured for Tunisia at the last World Cup, starting all three group-stage matches, and has built a reputation in Germany as a tireless, tactically disciplined midfielder. For a Sevilla side that leaked control and consistency last season, his profile fits the need for stability.

Time, though, is tight.

The Spanish season is fast approaching, and the urgency to land a striker grows by the day. Sevilla open their La Liga campaign in just eight days, hosting Rayo Vallecano at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. That gives coach Garcia Plaza only a narrow window to integrate any new arrivals into his system and settle on a starting XI.

Before that, there is one final dress rehearsal. Sevilla face Bayer Leverkusen tomorrow at 3:30pm in Germany, their last friendly of the summer. Once that whistle blows, the margin for experimentation shrinks. The market will still be open, but the season will have started, and every delay in recruitment will be felt on the pitch.

Sevilla know it. Frankfurt know it. Skhiri, stuck between a frozen role in the Bundesliga and a possible lifeline in La Liga, may soon find out exactly where his future lies.
