Teenage USMNT Talent Zavier Gozo Joins Crystal Palace in £15 Million Transfer
American Teenager Zavier Gozo Signs With Crystal Palace
The Premier League will soon feature another young American star as Zavier Gozo completes his move from MLS side Real Salt Lake to Crystal Palace. The 19-year-old winger has agreed to a five-year contract reportedly worth over $15 million, marking a major step in his fast-rising career.
"Playing in the Premier League with Crystal Palace is a dream for any footballer," Gozo expressed in the club's announcement. "I'm really impressed by the people here and the project they're building. Seeing their success excites me about joining this team."
From Utah to the Premier League
Hailing from West Valley City, Utah, Gozo’s journey began at his local club before joining Real Salt Lake's youth academy six years ago. He broke into the MLS at just 16 in 2023, showing early promise that now earns him a shot at one of the toughest leagues globally.
His performances in the first half of the current MLS season caught the attention of Crystal Palace scouts. In 16 starts, Gozo notched six goals and five assists, earning his first MLS All-Star selection.
“Life moves so fast. You play well for a couple of games, and you’re an All-Star. It came faster than I thought and faster than a lot of people thought. It’s been a great journey,” Gozo told Sports Illustrated during the All-Star Game.
Joining Forces With Chris Richards
At Palace, Gozo will join fellow USMNT defender Chris Richards, who was a key figure at the 2026 World Cup. Though seven years younger, Gozo aims to follow Richards’ path and hopes to debut for the senior national team this fall.
“Yo bro, it’s Chris,” Richards said in a video message shared by the club. “Heard through the grapevine you might be joining me in South London all the way from the 801. Can’t wait to get going. Congrats bro, and see you soon.”
Growing American Presence in England
Gozo and Richards are part of a growing group of Americans competing in the Premier League this season. Notables include fullback Antonee Robinson at Fulham, midfielder Brenden Aaronson at Leeds United, defensive midfielder Tyler Adams at Bournemouth, and striker Haji Wright at Coventry City.
Several Americans also represent teams in the EFL Championship. Max Arfsten, Sebastian Berhalter, and Aidan Morris play for Middlesbrough, while Patrick Agyemang is with Derby County but recovering from an Achilles injury and expected back this winter.
Looking Ahead to the New Season
Crystal Palace opens its 2026–27 campaign against Everton on Saturday, where Gozo might make his first appearance. This signing underscores Palace’s commitment to nurturing young talent and adds to the rising wave of American players in English football.
