Sam Edozie Requests Transfer from Southampton for Regular Football

Sam Edozie has submitted a transfer request to Southampton, insisting he needs to leave the club to secure regular football as the transfer window ticks towards Tuesday night’s deadline.

The 23-year-old winger went public with his stance in a statement on Instagram, revealing he has received “multiple offers” from clubs across Europe and accusing Southampton of making a move away difficult with their demands.

Edozie goes public

“Last summer I had the opportunity to move elsewhere, but the club did not allow me to leave,” Edozie wrote.

“The same happened again in January. This summer, there have once again been multiple offers from clubs across Europe.”

The winger claimed Southampton have “requested as much as 50% of any future transfer fee, which has made those opportunities extremely difficult to pursue.”

Frustration over game time

Edozie joined Southampton from Manchester City in September 2022, a move that was meant to fast-track his senior career. Across two seasons he has started 29 games and made a further 57 appearances from the bench, flashes of promise without a sustained run.

He made clear that is no longer enough.

He said he was not getting “the minutes I need” at St Mary’s and stressed the urgency of his situation.

“A football career is short, and I believe it is important I now have the opportunity to go somewhere I can play regularly, continue to develop and make the most of my career as a player,” he added.

Loan move and uncertain future

The former England Under-20 international has already stepped away from the Championship club for this campaign, joining Belgian side Anderlecht on loan for the 2024-2025 season.

His transfer request, though, underlines a deeper desire: not just a temporary switch, but a clean break from Southampton.

With the deadline looming and European interest on the table, the next 48 hours will reveal whether the club hold their ground on their terms – or finally grant Edozie the permanent move he is pushing hard to secure.
