This latest payout increases Fernandez’s total earnings for River Plate to nearly €60 million since his European debut in 2022, a remarkable sum for the club that nurtured him.

How the Solidarity Mechanism Works

According to Argentine source Olé, River Plate will receive 3.37% of the total transfer fee through FIFA’s solidarity contribution. The funds will help offset some of the club's financial commitments, such as the loan arrangement for forward Lucas Beltran.

When former president Jorge Brito sold Fernandez to Benfica for €18 million, he smartly included a 25% sell-on clause.
