It sounds unbelievable, yet Francesco Totti, the 2006 World Cup winner, confirmed he received offers from Serie A clubs to make a comeback at the age of 48. Though retired since 2017, several teams showed interest in late 2024.

Offers From Genoa and Como

Totti shared that both Genoa and Como reached out with serious inquiries. He personally declined both, explaining how unusual it was to consider returning at such an age.

He pointed out how strange it was to be older than those instructing him, saying, "These are not fairy tales, this is the plain truth. Incredible, but true. Crazy." This revelation comes from his autobiography Oltre, as reported by Corriere della Sera.

Training and Diet Preparations

Before deciding, Totti resumed training and adjusted his diet strictly—no bread or sweets. Although giving up sweets was tough, he found the physical side manageable, aside from some typical aches of someone nearing 50.

"My head said I could say yes, my heart said no. Then the roles reversed: my thoughts put on the brakes and my pulse sped up," he admitted.

Despite pushing himself like a professional, he wrestled with whether he could join a club other than Roma.

Love for Roma Was the Final Barrier

The legendary player's loyalty to Roma ultimately stopped him from accepting any offers. He said sporting betrayal isn’t about age, whether 18 or 48.

"Can you even play for a team other than Roma? That was the question I kept asking myself. It was never about my age," Totti explained.
