Rangers Face PSV's Firm Stance on Driouech as Celtic Nears Hassan Deal
Rangers’ search for wide attacking reinforcements has run into a familiar brick wall in the Netherlands, just as Celtic edge closer to landing one of Spain’s most intriguing wingers.
Rangers Hit PSV Resistance Over Driouech
Rangers returned to PSV Eindhoven with an improved £6m bid for Couhaib Driouech. PSV didn’t blink. The offer was rejected, and the Dutch club are in no rush to cash in on the 24-year-old.
The Glasgow side are not alone anymore. Burnley and Celta Vigo have stepped into the race, with talks described as being at an early stage. That alone shifts the dynamic. What looked like a straight fight is now a three‑way, possibly four‑way, contest.
And the player? Driouech is understood to have a slight preference for Celta Vigo after the Spanish club made their move. La Liga, sunshine, and a possession-heavy style have their pull, especially for a winger who thrives in open spaces. Rangers, for all their stature and European nights, suddenly feel like they’re chasing from behind.
Celtic, Rangers and Monaco All Shut Out on Ghedjemis
On the opposite flank of the transfer market, another winger has slipped away from Scottish hands.
Monaco have identified Fares Ghedjemis as their top target for the right wing and have already seen a bid knocked back. Their opening offer – £6m plus £1.7m in bonuses – was rejected by Frosinone.
They were not alone in being turned away. Frosinone also rebuffed £8.6m bids from both Celtic and Rangers for the 23-year-old Algeria international. That is a clear statement from the Italian club: they know exactly what they have, and they will not be rushed or lowballed.
Monaco plan to return with an improved proposal. Celtic and Rangers, for now, are on the outside looking in, both having tested the water and been told the price is higher than they hoped.
Hassan Move to Celtic Nears the Line
While one target slips and another proves elusive, Celtic are much closer to landing Haissem Hassan.
The 24-year-old Egypt winger has been left out of Real Oviedo’s squad for their pre-season match against Le Havre. That is rarely a coincidence at this stage of the window. A £9m bid from Celtic is on the table, and Hassan is waiting for the green light to travel for a medical.
The deal is advanced. There is an agreement in place for Hassan to join Celtic on a contract running until 2030. The structure is clear: Real Oviedo are set to receive £6m up front, with a further £1.3m due if the Scottish Premiership champions reach the Champions League proper.
Visa issues are the final snag. Paperwork, not negotiation, is slowing the move. On the football side, the path is open.
Real Oviedo head coach Julian Calero has already admitted the club will not stand in Hassan’s way. When a manager speaks like that, the endgame is usually close. Celtic look set to add a long-term wide option with resale value and European upside.
Old Firm, Same Positions, Different Paths
So the picture is this: Rangers are pushing, but PSV are holding firm on Driouech while new rivals circle. Celtic and Rangers have both been turned away from Ghedjemis, with Monaco ready to up the stakes. Celtic, though, are closing in on Hassan, with only bureaucracy between them and a winger tied down to 2030.
Two clubs, the same positions, similar budgets, but very different leverage in the market. As the window tightens, which of them finds the cutting edge out wide first?
