Rafael Leao Targeted by Fenerbahce in Major Transfer from Milan

Fenerbahce have launched an audacious bid to lure Rafael Leao away from Milan, putting a five-year offer on the table that would make the Portuguese winger one of the best-paid players in Turkey, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Istanbul club are reportedly offering a net salary of eight million euros per season, plus a hefty package of performance-related bonuses. Leao would earn 1.5 million euros if he makes more than 20 appearances, another 1.5 million euros for reaching 15 goals, and a further one million euros should Fenerbahce finally reclaim the Süper Lig title.

That last clause tells its own story.

A club of Fenerbahce’s size has gone a decade without the league crown, last winning it in 2014. They have finished runners-up in each of the past four seasons, watching Galatasaray set the pace and lift the trophy. The frustration has been building; the response under newly elected president Aziz Yildirim is clear: spend big, and spend now.

A 50 million euro statement

The report claims Fenerbahce are ready to pay 50 million euros to Milan for Leao. For a player who has long split opinion at San Siro, that figure would test the resolve of any sporting director.

Leao’s talent has never been in doubt. His consistency has. At Milan, he has veered between unstoppable and anonymous, a winger capable of deciding matches but also disappearing for long stretches. Last season he scored ten goals and added three assists in 31 competitive appearances – respectable, but not the return of a player who dominates every week.

A move to the Süper Lig would offer him something different: a fresh stage, a leading role, and a salary that reflects star status. At 25, he stands at a crossroads in his career. Stay and fight to become the undisputed leader of Milan’s attack, or accept Fenerbahce’s invitation to become the face of a rebuilding project in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce’s transfer revolution

This is not a one-off gamble. It is a pattern.

Only weeks ago, Fenerbahce smashed their transfer record to sign Mason Greenwood from Olympique Marseille for 39 million euros. That figure, huge by Turkish standards, might not stand for long if the Leao deal advances.

The club have already added more pieces around him. Vedat Muriqi arrived from Mallorca for 15.5 million euros to bolster the forward line. Nathan Ake joined from Manchester City for eight million euros to strengthen the back line. These are not speculative punts; they are proven names brought in to close the gap to Galatasaray and end a decade of near-misses.

Leao would be the crown jewel in that strategy, the player expected to tilt the title race and drag Fenerbahce over the line.

Milan’s dilemma and the Karetsas plan

On the other side of the deal sits Milan, weighing risk against opportunity.

Selling Leao for 50 million euros would mean losing one of their most explosive attackers. It would also hand them significant funds to reshape the squad. According to the same report, Milan already have a target in mind: Konstantinos Karetsas of KRC Genk.

The Greek international is seen as a possible reinvestment, a new attacking piece for the future. There is a problem, though. Karetsas has reportedly already given his word to Borussia Dortmund, and unlike BVB, Milan have yet to submit a formal offer.

So the equation is complicated. Cash in on Leao and chase a replacement who may already be leaning elsewhere? Or hold firm, keep a sometimes-frustrating but often decisive winger, and hope that his best years unfold in red and black rather than yellow and navy?

For Fenerbahce, the path is simple: keep spending, keep pushing, and break the cycle of second place. For Leao and Milan, the decision is far more delicate.
