Jose Mourinho Seeks Two More Signings for Real Madrid
Real Madrid have moved early and aggressively this summer, but Jose Mourinho is not treating a fast start as a finished job. Four deals are already lined up, yet the head coach is pushing hard for at least two more signings before the window closes.
Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva have all agreed to join the European giants and are set to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu once their 2026 World Cup campaigns are over. That quartet alone would represent a major reshaping of the squad.
Mourinho wants more.
Centre-back and Modric-style midfielder on the wishlist
According to Marca, the Portuguese coach has formally asked the club hierarchy for two further additions: another centre-back to partner or compete with Konate, and a midfielder in the mould of Luka Modric, capable of dictating rhythm and threading passes through tight spaces.
Mourinho has not left those requests vague. He has already handed over a clear list of preferred names.
At the back, he is pushing for either Alessandro Bastoni or Nico Schlotterbeck. Both are left-sided, progressive defenders who would balance Konate’s profile and give Madrid a commanding, modern pairing. Schlotterbeck has been heavily discussed in recent weeks, his name circulating around the Bernabeu corridors and in the media alike, but an injury ruling him out for six to eight weeks has thrown a shadow over that option and could seriously damage his chances of securing a move.
In midfield, Mourinho’s ideal signing is Enzo Fernandez, with Mateus Fernandes also viewed as a strong alternative. Fernandez, currently at Chelsea, fits the brief: a deep-lying playmaker with range, press resistance and the personality to take the ball under pressure in the biggest games. At this stage, he is understood to be the favoured candidate for that Modric-style role, even if any deal for the Argentine is not close or imminent.
Mourinho’s imprint on the new Madrid
The coach has already exerted significant influence over Madrid’s early summer business. Konate, Dumfries, Cucurella and Silva are not random opportunistic signings; they are players Mourinho specifically identified and pushed for, building a side with power, width and technical quality in key areas.
He now wants the same level of control over the final pieces of the puzzle. A Bastoni or Schlotterbeck type to anchor the defence. An Enzo or Mateus Fernandes figure to stitch everything together in midfield.
Madrid’s work in the market is far from over. The squad is being rebuilt with Mourinho’s fingerprints all over it, and he is clearly determined that by the time Konate, Dumfries, Cucurella and Silva walk through the doors of the Bernabeu after the World Cup, they will not be the last new faces finding their place in his new project.
