Burnley Sign Promising Defender Alleyne to Boost Promotion Bid

Burnley have moved to sharpen their promotion push by bringing in highly rated defender Alleyne, with the 21-year-old arriving after a split season between Watford and Manchester City.

The England Under-21 international spent the first half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Watford in the Championship, before City recalled him in the middle of an injury crisis. That recall underlined how trusted he has become at the Etihad.

Guardiola used him seven times last season, including both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United and a Champions League outing against Bodo/Glimt. High-stakes minutes, not just token appearances.

At Watford, Alleyne’s numbers backed up the eye test. In league matches he produced the second-most tackles (20) among the club’s defenders, won the third-most duels (72) and registered the fourth-most clearances (76). He didn’t just fill a shirt. He competed, constantly.

Now he drops into a different kind of pressure: dragging Burnley back to the Premier League after last season’s relegation.

"I'm super excited, I can't wait to get going," he told the club website after completing the move. "I had my first training session today and I've really enjoyed it so far, meeting the manager and my teammates.

"I first heard of the interest a couple of months ago now and I'm so glad it got done. It's a huge team, a Premier League team to be honest and I'm so buzzing to be here."
