Madjo Injury Disrupts Aston Villa's Premier League Plans

Teenage sensation Madjo will not be riding the wave of his UEFA Super Cup heroics into the new season. According to The Athletic, the 17-year-old is expected to be sidelined until at least September after picking up an injury in the showpiece clash against PSG.

It is a brutal twist. On his competitive debut, the youngster had lit up the occasion, scoring Aston Villa’s only goal and becoming the youngest scorer in the competition’s history. One strike, one record, and the kind of entrance that makes a fanbase sit up and reimagine the future.

Seven days before the Premier League starts, that future has been abruptly paused.

Emery’s attack ripped up

For Unai Emery, the timing could hardly be worse. Madjo had been one of the standout performers across pre-season, forcing his way into the conversation not just as a prospect, but as a genuine option for the here and now. Now, with the teenager out, the manager has to redraw his plans on the fly.

Madjo will miss the curtain-raiser away to Brighton on Sunday, August 23. He is also set to sit out the early-season meeting with Arsenal and further fixtures against Hull City, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham on September 19.

The emergency strips Villa’s forward line to its bare bones. Ollie Watkins becomes the clear focal point, carrying the responsibility of leading the line and the scoring charts. Behind him, Tammy Abraham now stands as the only other senior centre-forward available, a stark reminder of how quickly depth can evaporate.

One injury in attack is bad enough. Villa have more problems elsewhere.

Midfield options shrinking fast

The Super Cup has left another scar. New signing Joao Gomes picked up an injury in the aftermath of the PSG clash and is now ruled out for the next two to four weeks. He was brought in to add bite and balance in the middle of the pitch. Instead, he joins the growing list of absentees.

That list already included Amadou Onana, who suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury at the World Cup. The Belgian’s long-term absence had already punched a sizeable hole in Emery’s engine room.

Now, with Gomes out as well, the midfield looks worryingly light. The situation is magnified by the summer departure of Youri Tielemans to Manchester United, removing a key creative hub from the squad. The blend of control, craft, and physicality Emery had been building towards suddenly looks fragile.
