Marcus Rashford's Uncertain Future Amid Barcelona's Deal for Gordon

Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona future has been thrown into fresh doubt, and the Premier League sharks have started to circle.

What looked like a straightforward permanent move after a productive loan in Catalonia has turned into a far more tangled saga, with Anthony Gordon’s impending arrival at the Nou Camp forcing Barcelona to pause – and potentially pivot.

Gordon deal muddies the waters

Rashford’s numbers in Spain were solid: 14 goals and 14 assists on loan, enough to convince Hansi Flick he wanted the Manchester United forward to stay. The German has pushed internally for Barcelona to activate their €30m option.

But the club’s hierarchy is hesitating.

The reason is Gordon. Barcelona have moved aggressively to hijack the Newcastle winger from under Bayern Munich’s nose, agreeing a £70m fee that could rise to £80m with add-ons. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Gordon is due to land in Barcelona today, with medical tests scheduled this afternoon.

That move changes everything for Rashford.

Decision-makers at the Nou Camp now see keeping both Gordon and Rashford as “more complicated”, according to The Athletic. The finances are tight, the squad balance delicate. Flick wants Rashford. Others are far less sure.

Clock ticking on United’s deadline

Manchester United have set a clear line in the sand. The €30m option on Rashford must be triggered by June 15. No extensions. No renegotiations so far.

Barcelona, as reported by the Daily Mail, are reluctant to commit to the £26m option and would rather explore another loan. United, under the new INEOS regime and with Michael Carrick in the dugout, have shown no appetite to bend. They do not plan to reintegrate Rashford into the squad and want a clean solution, not another temporary fix.

Talks between the two clubs are planned this week. Something has to give.

Sources close to Rashford, as cited by The Athletic, say no final decision has been communicated to them and that they still believe there is a chance he stays at Barcelona next season, even with Gordon walking through the door. His preference is clear: his dream is to remain under Flick.

The dream, though, is no longer fully in Barcelona’s hands.

Premier League powerhouses on alert

If Barcelona step away, the market opens up fast.

United, knowing Carrick does not see Rashford as part of his plans, will need a new buyer. A swap with AC Milan involving Rafael Leao has been floated, with reports in Italy suggesting Milan have slashed Leao’s asking price from £86m to around £43m. United are understood to admire the Portugal international.

But the Premier League is already moving into position.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Arsenal have all discussed Rashford as a potential target. No bids yet, no formal negotiations disclosed, but the conversations have started. For clubs looking for a forward who can operate across the front line, with proven output at the highest level, the numbers and situation are enticing.

Villa, with Champions League football on the table. Tottenham, reshaping their attack under Ange Postecoglou. Arsenal, always searching for marginal gains in the title race. Each of them can see the opportunity if Barcelona step aside and United are forced to deal.

A career at a crossroads

So Rashford waits.

He has delivered in Spain, won the trust of Flick, and found a rhythm away from the Old Trafford glare. Yet Barcelona’s pursuit of Gordon has dragged his future back into uncertainty.

The deadline is set. The Premier League giants are hovering. AC Milan and Rafael Leao linger as a wild-card option.

If Barcelona refuse to meet United’s price, the next move will not just define Rashford’s summer. It may define the next chapter of his career.
