Martin Sherif Charged by FA Over Betting Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations across a 15‑month spell.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026.

In a statement, the FA said: “Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules. It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

The clock is now ticking. Sherif has until Monday, 17 August, to answer the charges.

A highly regarded prospect in Everton’s system, the Liberia-born attacker joined the club’s youth ranks in 2019 and earned the chance to train with the first team in early 2025, a significant step in his development at Goodison Park.

His senior breakthrough has so far come away from Merseyside. Sherif joined League One side Rotherham United on loan last summer, scoring twice in 10 games before injuries cut that spell short and led to his recall in December.

The search for minutes continued. In February he moved back out on loan, this time to Port Vale for the remainder of the campaign. He again scored twice, this time across 17 League One appearances, as Vale slid to relegation.

Now his progress faces a very different kind of scrutiny, with the FA’s betting charge set to shape the next chapter of a career that had been steadily edging towards the Premier League stage.
