Liverpool Faces Setback in Ismaïla Sarr Pursuit

Liverpool’s search for a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah has hit another wall, with Crystal Palace making it clear that Ismaïla Sarr is going nowhere.

Reports emerged that Liverpool had tabled a bid worth €58.4 million for the Palace winger, with Fabrizio Romano claiming an offer was lodged. The Athletic painted a different picture, insisting no formal bid was submitted. What both sides of the story agree on is this: Liverpool made an enquiry, and Palace’s response was blunt. Sarr is not for sale.

That stance only hardens the impression that Palace see Sarr as central to their project. The 28-year-old has 116 Premier League appearances behind him and is coming off a standout campaign in which he helped the club to Europa Conference League glory, scoring 21 goals in the process. Interest from bigger clubs was always coming; Palace have simply decided this is not the summer to cash in.

Galatasaray Rebuffed, Liverpool Re-Routed

Liverpool aren’t the first to be turned away. Galatasaray have already had two bids rejected for Sarr this summer, and the Turkish side are not expected to return with a third offer. Palace have drawn their line.

That leaves Liverpool scrambling down a familiar list of right-wing targets. Andoni Iraola’s side had initially pushed for Yankuba Minteh, only to walk away when Brighton’s demands soared. The Seagulls were said to be asking for around €90 million, a figure that effectively shut the door and nudged Liverpool towards Sarr.

The pattern is clear: every time Liverpool close in on one solution, the price or the stance of the selling club forces them to pivot again.

Salah Succession Plan Stalls Again

Finding the next right-sided talisman has turned into a complicated, stop-start saga at Anfield. Liverpool have been linked with a string of options and have already made approaches for Minteh. They have also held extensive discussions over PSG winger Ibrahim Mbaye, with Sarr the latest name to surge to the top of the shortlist before Palace’s refusal.

The club are not limiting themselves to one flank, either. Talks are ongoing with PSG over Bradley Barcola, the French international who prefers operating from the left. That move would reshape Liverpool’s attacking balance, but it would not solve the question that keeps looming over the club: who takes the right-wing mantle when Salah eventually moves on?

For now, the answer is not Ismaïla Sarr. And with the window ticking down and asking prices soaring, Liverpool’s next move in this increasingly tense winger market could define the direction of their attack for years to come.
