Liverpool Faces Inter Milan Standoff Over Curtis Jones

Liverpool’s summer rebuild is being dragged into a staring contest with Inter Milan over Curtis Jones – and the Italians have now drawn a line in the sand.

Inter set Jones deadline as Liverpool dig in

Inter want Jones in the door and on the training pitch in Germany from July 16. That is the date circled in their pre-season plans, and the message from Milan is clear: they do not want this saga running on.

The problem? Liverpool are in no mood to fold.

Inter, who have already received the green light from Jones over a move, are working off a figure of around €20m. Liverpool, facing a summer of upheaval and already counting the cost of key departures, value him far higher. The asking price sits closer to €30m, with the Premier League club also pushing for a percentage of any future resale.

For Inter, it is a delicate balance. Their squad is bloated, with around 20 players already on the books and six away on World Cup duty – Manuel Akanji, Hakan Calhanoglu, Luka Sucic, Bonny, Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram. New boss Cristian Chivu will still have a strong group available when camp begins, a blend of established names and fresh faces, but Jones is viewed as a priority piece rather than a luxury.

They are banking on two things: the midfielder’s clear desire to make the move, and the fact his contract has just a year left. That combination usually forces movement in the market. So far, Liverpool are holding the line.

And they have their reasons.

Ibrahima Konate has already walked out of Anfield on a free to join Real Madrid. Andy Robertson has done the same, heading to Tottenham. Mohamed Salah has publicly confirmed he will leave for Saudi Arabia or another destination after this season. Around them, the noise grows: Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and others regularly mentioned in dispatches as potential exits in what is fast becoming a defining window.

In that context, Jones is not just a sale. He is a funding mechanism. Any fee they bank for the academy graduate feeds directly into Liverpool’s own recruitment drive. Letting him go for Inter’s preferred price would weaken both their squad and their spending power.

So the stalemate continues. Inter pushing for speed and certainty. Liverpool pushing for value. The clock ticking towards July 16.

Ayari cools talk of Liverpool move

While Inter try to prise one midfielder out of Anfield, Liverpool are being linked with another in Brighton’s Yasin Ayari – though the Swede is doing his best to shut out the noise.

Ayari has impressed on the international stage, starring in Sweden’s opening match of the tournament and catching the eye of scouts across Europe. Reports have placed him on Liverpool’s list of possible midfield reinforcements.

Asked directly by Fotbollskanalen about negotiations over a move to Anfield, Ayari batted the question away.

“I’m in the World Cup bubble, as they say. I don’t have a clue about anything. Everyone else is taking care of it for me. I’m just here and focusing on the World Cup,” he said.

For now, that is the only line that matters to him. Club futures can wait; tournament football cannot.

Back at Brighton, the picture is slightly clearer. The club have already moved to sign Zadok Yohanna from Ayari’s former side AIK Fotboll, and Ayari is relishing the chance to help the teenager settle into life on the south coast.

“It will be fun. I haven’t seen much of him in the Swedish league, but it will be fun to start and see how he goes,” Ayari added. “I will take care of him, but many people will take care of him. It’s a family club, so it should go well.”

It is a revealing glimpse into Brighton’s culture – and a reminder of why their players are so heavily courted. A tight-knit environment, a clear development pathway, and a squad used to interest from the elite.

Liverpool sit right at the intersection of those two stories. One club trying to keep their homegrown midfielder long enough – and at a high enough price – to reshape a squad that is losing some of its biggest names. Another potential target insisting he is locked into World Cup mode, even as the market circles.

Inter have their deadline. Liverpool have their valuation. Ayari has his bubble. The next few weeks will show whose stance holds longest in a summer that could redefine Anfield’s midfield for years.
