Dietmar Hamann told GOAL that there is "always a chance" Erling Haaland might leave Manchester City if clubs like Barcelona or Real Madrid come calling. Although no offers have come yet, and Haaland remains contracted until 2034, the idea of a fresh start elsewhere might appeal to him eventually.

Haaland’s Impact Since Joining City

Following in his father Alf Inge’s footsteps, Haaland joined Manchester City in the summer of 2022. At that time, he was among the hottest talents globally, with Pep Guardiola securing his signature for £51 million ($69m), a bargain by today’s transfer standards. His debut season exploded with success, scoring 52 goals and helping City win the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League treble.

Could Spain Entice Haaland in 2027?

“He’s won it all, hasn’t he? Champions League, Premier League. He signed a very long contract, but it’s natural after a while at a club. He was even born in England because of his father's career here. I think when Barcelona or Madrid call, there’s always a chance. But if City says no, with his contract and value, it might be tough.”

“When big personalities leave, others have to step forward. Ruben Dias remains the team leader. Gianluigi Donnarumma is a young keeper with vast experience. Players like Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi are talented but need guidance—Bouaddi especially adapting to the league. The midfield is crucial; it decides games. Haaland likely needs to take on a bigger role since previously he didn’t carry full responsibility with those experienced players around.”

New Addition: Enzo Fernandez Joins the Squad

On transfer deadline day, City also signed Argentine World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million ($169m), making him one of the most expensive British football signings ever. Known for his combative style and leadership as former Chelsea captain, Fernandez will bolster City's midfield strength.
