Driouech's Rangers Move Fails as PSV Faces Transfer Setback

Couhaib Driouech’s switch to Rangers is off. Completely.

After days of talks in Glasgow, the winger and the Scottish club failed to find an agreement, Eindhovens Dagblad reporter Rik Elfrink reported on Friday. Instead of starting a new chapter in Scotland, the 24-year-old is heading back to Eindhoven and to PSV.

It is a costly collapse. PSV were staring at a fee that could have risen to around €8 million. That money is now gone, at least from this deal, and so is a move that had seemed close enough for Driouech to travel to Scotland to finalise it.

What exactly broke down at the table remains unclear. No last-minute detail has been confirmed as the decisive stumbling block. What is clear: Driouech will not be playing for Rangers, and he will report back in Eindhoven.

PSV's Transfer Struggles

For PSV, the pattern is becoming uncomfortable. This is the club’s fourth failed transfer in just five months. Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo all saw proposed moves fall apart before Driouech joined that list. Each case different, the outcome the same: no deal.

The immediate question is what this means for Driouech’s role at PSV. For now, the outlook is not bright. Injury has already kept him out of the opening matches of the new season, stalling his momentum before it even started.

While he has been sidelined, the hierarchy on the flanks appears to have shifted. Academy product Amir Bouhamdi has moved past him in the pecking order and is set to underline that rise with a new contract at the Philips Stadion. The timing is telling.

So Driouech returns to a squad where his future impact is uncertain, his aborted move hanging in the air, and competition for minutes growing sharper by the week.

PSV, meanwhile, have little time to dwell on another transfer that slipped away. They travel to Excelsior on Saturday evening, kicking off at 20:00, still chewing on last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Fortuna Sittard.
