Derby County Secures First Victory with Quality Finish by Salvesen

Darren Robinson hailed Derby County’s response to their winless start as “a quality finish” in every sense after Lars-Jorgen Salvesen crashed in the decisive goal against Portsmouth.

The former Rams midfielder highlighted both the technique and the timing of the striker’s strike, which delivered Derby’s first victory of the season.

“It was a quality finish in the way he came on to the ball and it was a confident finish,” Robinson said, underlining how assured Salvesen looked in front of goal.

Portsmouth had peppered Derby’s box with efforts from range, but Robinson felt they never truly looked ruthless.

“There were lots of shots from distance, particularly from Portsmouth, but they lacked that cutting edge – but you watch that finish by Salvesen. He comes on to it and he absolutely thumps it – it was still rising as it hit the back of the net.”

The game’s rhythm had begun to tilt towards the visitors after the interval, with the away support sensing a shift. That was exactly why the goal landed with such force, Robinson argued.

“It was an important time to score because the crowd were building a bit of energy. Portsmouth had given that reaction after half-time and that really burst the bubble.”

One strike, rising all the way into the net, might just have lifted Derby’s season off the floor.
