Arsenal Edges Closer to Premier League Title
Arsenal walked out of the London Stadium with more than just three points. They left with the Premier League title race tilted firmly in their favour and a five-point cushion over Manchester City that suddenly feels significant.
Sunday’s 1-0 win at West Ham United did not settle anything, but it changed the mood. It restored the gap that had been sliced to two points 24 hours earlier, when City brushed aside Brentford 3-0 to momentarily crank up the pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side.
City’s slip in their previous outing – that chaotic 3-3 draw at Everton – had already hinted at vulnerability. Arsenal’s response has been ruthless: keep winning, keep the distance, keep the dream alive.
Now the question is no longer just if they can end a 22-year wait for the title. It is when.
The Earliest Coronation
The mathematics are simple, the scenario brutal for City.
The earliest Arsenal could be crowned champions is Monday, 18 May, when they host already-relegated Burnley. For that date to become a potential coronation night in north London, one thing has to happen first: City must stumble.
Pep Guardiola’s side face Crystal Palace at home on Wednesday, 13 May. Any dropped points there would hand Arsenal the chance to finish the job with time to spare.
If City draw against Palace, they would fall four points behind. If they lose, the gap would stretch to five. Either outcome would leave the door wide open for Arsenal.
Then comes Burnley. If Arsenal win that game, the numbers turn ruthless. They would move at least seven points clear, with City able to collect a maximum of only six from their remaining fixtures.
At that moment, the title race would be over. No twists, no final-day drama. Just Arsenal, back on top of English football with games to spare.
The margins are clear. The path is set. Now it comes down to nerve – City’s to keep pace, and Arsenal’s to finish the climb they started months ago.
