Each club plays eight matches against different opponents—four at home and four away—determined by a draw. From this league phase, 24 teams move forward to the knockout rounds.

The top eight teams earn a direct spot in the Round of 16, while those placed 9th through 24th enter a knockout playoff round. Teams finishing 25th or lower are eliminated without a chance to continue in the Europa or Conference Leagues.

Europa League Dropouts No Longer Exist

While the knockout rounds largely remain familiar, there is an added preliminary step due to the expanded league phase. The knockout playoff round involves teams ranked 9th to 24th. The top eight avoid this round, entering directly into the Round of 16.
