Tottenham Acquire Brazil Winger Savinho from Manchester City for £75m

Tottenham Secure Savinho in £75m Deal

Tottenham Hotspur have finalized the signing of Brazilian winger Savinho from Manchester City for an initial fee of £75 million, with potential add-ons that could push the total to £85 million. The 22-year-old has committed to a long-term contract under the guidance of manager Roberto de Zerbi.

The transfer marks the culmination of over a year of negotiations, after Spurs missed out on signing him last summer. Savinho chose to stay at the Etihad Stadium last season but saw limited opportunities, starting only seven Premier League matches under Pep Guardiola.

"It took some time, but I’m very happy to be here," Savinho said. "This is a fantastic chance at a great club with one of the best coaches in the world. When I spoke with the head coach, I knew I had to come. He wants to help me reach my highest potential, and I believe we can achieve that together as a team."

Career and Transfer Details

Savinho moved to City from French club Troyes in 2024 for £30.8 million. He featured in 84 games for City, scoring seven goals and providing 16 assists across all competitions. His arrival at Spurs follows a busy summer for the club, which has also brought in Mateus Fernandes (West Ham), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle), Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton) for a combined £312 million. Additionally, Spurs added defenders Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson, along with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, on free transfers.

De Zerbi's Take on Savinho

Roberto de Zerbi described Savinho as a player who "brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions. He attacks defenders with courage and can change a game through his creativity."

Meanwhile, City are close to finalizing another deal to send Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush to Tottenham before the transfer deadline on 1 September.

Performance Insights

Last season, Savinho’s involvement at City decreased sharply following the January signing of winger Antoine Semenyo. He logged 821 Premier League minutes, scored once, and assisted once, appearing in just 31% of City's minutes across competitions. This was a notable drop compared to the previous season, where he played 54% of available minutes.

Despite reduced game time, his 2024-25 stats justify Tottenham’s investment:

  • Eight Premier League assists, all from open play, ranking among the top five players in this category.
  • Third highest for open-play assists per 90 minutes with 0.41.
  • Created 2.2 chances per 90, second only to Mohamed Salah.
  • Led the league in progressive carries (minimum 10 meters) with 6.8 per 90, behind only Jeremy Doku.
  • Top in carries followed by a chance created, averaging 1.3 per 90, trailing only Son Heung-min in frequency of ending a carry with an assist.
  • Completed 2.6 dribbles per 90 with a 51% success rate.

His ability to attract defenders and set up teammates stood out, tracing back to his breakout season at Girona in La Liga (2023-24). There, he played 2,989 minutes mainly on the left wing (65%), netting nine goals and assisting eight, establishing himself as a formidable one-on-one threat.

At City, Savinho adapted primarily to the right wing, accounting for 36% of his minutes versus 20% on the left. This versatility might prove valuable for Spurs’ tactics.
