Tottenham Secure Loan Deal for Manchester City Forward Omar Marmoush
Tottenham Complete Loan Signing of Omar Marmoush from Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur have finalized a loan agreement to bring Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush to their squad, with a binding obligation to purchase the player permanently for £60 million next summer.
The 27-year-old Egyptian international joins Spurs following compatriot Savio’s recent transfer from City. Savio's deal saw Tottenham pay an initial £75 million earlier this week.
Marmoush's Journey and Role at Manchester City
Signed from Eintracht Frankfurt in January for £59 million, Marmoush struggled to secure consistent playing time at the Etihad Stadium, overshadowed by Erling Haaland's presence. He featured as a substitute during City's 3-0 Community Shield loss against Arsenal and remained unused in the Premier League opener, a 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
Tottenham's Summer Transfer Activity
Spurs have invested heavily this summer, spending over £312 million on new signings. Their acquisitions include:
- Mateus Fernandes from West Ham
- Sandro Tonali from Newcastle
- Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton
- Defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, plus goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on free transfers
What Does Marmoush Bring to Tottenham?
BBC Sport journalist Mohamed Moallim highlights Marmoush’s record of 16 goals in 62 games across all competitions for City since his move from Frankfurt. In the 2025-26 season, he scored eight goals in 36 appearances but saw limited Premier League action, starting just eight matches and playing around 700 minutes.
His league output included three goals and three assists, closely matching his expected goals (xG) of 3.53, suggesting finishing was not the main issue. Competition for minutes intensified due to City's focus on Haaland and other attacking reinforcements.
At Tottenham, forwards Dominic Solanke and Richarlison face challenges; Solanke has battled injuries, while Richarlison is entering the final year of his contract. Marmoush primarily operates as a number nine but has demonstrated versatility, playing centrally, as a second striker, or from the left flank.
This adaptability fits well with Spurs manager Roberto de Zerbi’s style, which often involves forwards switching positions, dropping deep, and exploiting space created when defenders are drawn out. Marmoush is comfortable executing these tactics.
