Serhou Guirassy Surpasses Lewandowski with Key Milestone in Borussia Dortmund’s Exciting Win

Guirassy Outshines Lewandowski in Dortmund’s Champions League Victory

Serhou Guirassy marked a special occasion by scoring twice in Borussia Dortmund's thrilling 3-2 win against Villarreal at Signal Iduna Park. This performance saw him surpass Robert Lewandowski on the club's all-time European scoring list, making the victory even more memorable.

Century of Appearances Celebrated with Crucial Goals

Dortmund began their Champions League campaign with an intense match where the hosts initially took the lead through a Renato Veiga own goal. Villarreal responded quickly with an equalizer from Santiago Mourino. Guirassy then stepped up, scoring two goals—a close-range finish and a penalty—that ultimately secured the win. The night ended dramatically when an accidental own goal off Guirassy's face deflected in following a save by goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Breaking Records and Reflecting on the Match

The brace pushed Guirassy's tally to 64 goals in 100 appearances for Dortmund. His Champions League goals now stand at 19 from 25 games, exceeding Lewandowski’s previous record of 17. Speaking after the match, the 30-year-old said, "I'm very, very happy to have played a hundred games for Dortmund - I didn't even realize that. Of course, it’s something very special to break Lewandowski’s record because he’s a great striker."

Guirassy's consistency in Europe since joining from Stuttgart in 2024 places him second only to Marco Reus, who has 24 Champions League goals for Dortmund. Commenting on the chaotic game and his own late own goal, he added, "It was a strange game tonight - a crazy game. We could have done better, but we’re happy with the win."

Dortmund Focused on Bundesliga Continuation

Following this important European success, Dortmund now prepare for their next Bundesliga match against Paderborn at Signal Iduna Park on September 12. With six points from two league games, Dortmund aims to maintain their perfect start to the domestic season. Guirassy’s form will be vital as they look to stay at the top of the standings.
