Search for Missing Ex-QPR Midfielder Ákos Buzsáky

Hungarian police have launched a search for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Akos Buzsáky, who has been missing for more than a week.

Authorities officially began looking for the 44-year-old on August 18, according to police records cited by the Sun. Since then, there has been no public confirmation of his whereabouts.

Ex-QPR and Hungary midfielder missing

Buzsáky, once a familiar figure in English football, built his reputation with Plymouth Argyle before moving to Queens Park Rangers, where his technique and long-range shooting made him a fan favourite. He featured for QPR in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season, scoring twice in the top flight.

Capped by Hungary at international level, he spent the bulk of his club career across the Championship and Premier League in the late 2000s and early 2010s. His professional journey in England wound down at Portsmouth in League One, where he played his final games before retiring in 2013.

Life after football in Greece

After hanging up his boots, Buzsáky stepped away from the spotlight. Reports say he turned to construction contracting, spending long stretches of time in Greece for work and basing much of his life there in recent years.

Hungarian media note that he no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His personal life had become more fragmented, with family members spread across different countries while he moved between Hungary and Greece.

Family caught by surprise

The search has taken a painful twist for his family. His father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., only discovered that police were involved when Hungarian outlet Blikk contacted him.

"I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there," he told the publication.

His mother has also been trying to find him in recent days. It is believed she may have been the one to first alert authorities and file the missing person report, prompting the official search on August 18.

For now, the case sits in an uneasy silence: a former international, once cheered in packed English grounds, now the subject of a police hunt stretching from Hungary to Greece, as his family waits for news.
