Sancho Leaves Manchester United in Major Premier League Shake-Up

Manchester United have finally drawn a line under the Jadon Sancho saga, confirming the £73 million winger will leave Old Trafford when his contract expires at the end of the month.

Three years after his blockbuster arrival from Borussia Dortmund, Sancho departs as one of the most expensive misfires in the club’s modern history. The talent was never in doubt. The impact never came.

He arrived in 2021 as a statement signing, expected to light up the right flank and spearhead a new era. Instead, his United career stalled almost from the outset. Form dipped, confidence drained, and the club’s revolving cast of managers never truly found a way to make him central to their plans.

The story of his United spell is written in loan moves. Sancho has spent the last two seasons away from Old Trafford, returning to Dortmund and also taking in stints at Chelsea and Aston Villa. It was with Villa that he finally tasted major success, lifting the UEFA Europa League this past season, but that resurgence has not been enough to trigger a fresh start in Manchester.

Sancho is not alone in heading for the exit. Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia will also leave when their contracts run down, their departures already confirmed before this week’s retained lists were published.

United have trimmed deeper into the squad structure as well. Academy products Sonny Aljofree, James Bailey and Malachi Sharpe have been released, while goalkeeper Dermot Mee has been offered fresh terms as the club reshapes its depth chart.

Liverpool break up title-winning core

Across the North West, Liverpool’s list carries an even more startling set of names. Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah are all leaving Anfield, signalling the end of an era for a side built on their influence at both ends of the pitch.

Konate’s power, Robertson’s relentless energy on the left, Salah’s goals and moments of genius have underpinned Liverpool’s success in recent seasons. Their simultaneous departure marks a dramatic shift as the club moves into a new phase.

Chelsea clear the fringes

Chelsea’s retained list is less headline-grabbing but still decisive. Four players have been released, including Richard Olise, brother of Michael Olise. Sam Rak-Sakyi, Brodi Hughes and Jimi Tauriainen also move on as the London club continues to streamline a bloated squad.

Spurs reshape midfield, back veteran defender

At Tottenham, Yves Bissouma will leave the club after failing to fully establish himself as a long-term midfield anchor. Spurs have chosen a different kind of continuity, handing a new deal to experienced defender Ben Davies, whose versatility and reliability remain valued in North London.

Wolves turn back to a familiar face

Relegated Wolves have made a move that will tug at the heartstrings of their supporters, re-signing Raul Jimenez after his release by Fulham. The Mexican forward, once the focal point of Wolves’ attack, returns to Molineux looking to help the club climb back up.

Wolves have also confirmed that Harry Wilson, linked with Leeds United and Aston Villa, has been offered a new contract, a sign they are determined not to lose all of their attacking craft in one summer.

Leeds prepare for life without Meslier

At Elland Road, an era ends in goal. Illan Meslier will leave Leeds after seven seasons with the club, a period that has taken him from promising youngster to established first-choice keeper.

Leeds are still in talks with Sam Byram, Alex Cairns and Karl Darlow. Darlow, notably, has been linked with a move to Manchester United, a potential knock-on effect of the reshuffling of goalkeeping options across the division.

Sunderland and Forest swing the axe

Sunderland’s list is a brutal one. Dan Neil, Dennis Cirkin, Bertrand Traore and Niall Huggins have all been released as the club opts for a sharp reset in key areas of the pitch.

Nottingham Forest have taken a similar approach. Goalkeepers Angus Gunn and Stefan Ortega, along with defender Willy Boly, are all leaving. Lorenzo Lucca will head back to parent club Napoli after Forest chose not to convert his loan spell into a permanent deal, ending his brief stay at the City Ground.

Trippier lands at Wolves as Newcastle move on

Kieran Trippier has found his next destination, signing for Wolves after leaving Newcastle United. His arrival brings leadership and set-piece quality to a side in transition.

Newcastle, for their part, say goodbye to several familiar figures. Goalkeepers John Ruddy and Max Thompson depart, as do defenders Emil Krafth and Matt Targett. Aaron Ramsdale will return to parent club Southampton when his loan ends, closing a short chapter on Tyneside.

West Ham cut ties with Traore and Fabianski

At West Ham United, Adama Traore’s stay has been remarkably brief. Just six months after joining, the winger is on his way out. Lukasz Fabianski also departs after eight years of service, a long and steady spell that saw him anchor the Hammers’ goal through multiple managerial changes and European nights.

Across the league, the retained lists read like a summer reset button being slammed down. Big names are out. Long-serving stalwarts are moving on. Expensive gambles like Sancho are being written off.

The question now is simple: who turns these endings into the start of something better?
