Chelsea Striker Marc Guiu Joins RB Leipzig

Chelsea have agreed to sell striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the young Spaniard to swap west London for the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete a permanent move to Germany, though sources close to the deal in Leipzig insist there are still details to iron out before it can be signed off. The fee remains under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m.

It marks a swift turnaround in his Chelsea story. The Spain Under-21 forward only arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2024 from Barcelona, his boyhood club, in a deal worth about £5m. A year on, he is on the brink of another major step in his career.

Guiu’s impact in England came in flashes rather than a sustained run. He made 29 appearances for Chelsea, scoring eight times, with six of those goals arriving in the club’s triumphant 2024-25 Conference League campaign. On European nights, he looked at home.

Domestic opportunities proved harder to come by. A short loan spell at Sunderland last season brought just three matches, offering little chance to build rhythm or a case for a long-term Premier League role.

The direction of travel became obvious this summer. Guiu trained away from the main first-team group during pre-season, a clear sign that Chelsea were preparing for life without him and that his future lay elsewhere.

Leipzig, renowned for developing young attacking talent, now stand ready to take that gamble. If the final pieces fall into place, they will be backing Guiu to turn promise into production in a league that rarely waits for strikers to settle.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are reshaping more than just their forward line.

Kendry Paez has been recalled from a difficult loan spell at River Plate, with the club cutting short his time in Argentina to free up an overseas loan slot. The midfielder is now expected to head back out, likely to another loan move and potentially to a club in England.

One young talent heading for Germany, another being rerouted after South America. Chelsea’s squad churn continues, and with it the question that lingers over every departure: who will make the leap from potential to permanent fixture elsewhere?
