Roma Confident of Retaining Manu Kone Amid Premier League Interest
Roma believe the storm around Manu Kone may finally be passing.
All summer, the midfielder’s name has been dragged into the thick of the transfer rumour mill. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City – the list of reported admirers has read like a who’s who of the Premier League and beyond.
For weeks, the noise from England and Italy suggested a battle was brewing. The latest twist centred on Manchester City, who have lost Rodri and could soon see Nico Gonzalez depart as well, prompting talk that Kone had moved up their list.
But the mood in Rome is shifting.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are growing increasingly confident that Kone will remain at the Stadio Olimpico. The message is clear: anyone who wants him will have to pay. The asking price sits at around €55 million, and the likelihood of a club meeting that figure now is described as low.
Roma did briefly open the door earlier in the window. In June, the club weighed up a potential sale as they worked to stay within Financial Fair Play limits. Even then, though, no formal offer arrived from England despite the constant links and speculation.
The only concrete move came from Spain. Atletico Madrid tested the waters with a bid, but their proposal never reached the level required to trigger serious talks. Roma’s stance hardened further after Kone’s impressive World Cup campaign, which only underlined his importance to the project.
Now the picture looks different again. Confidence is growing in the capital that Kone will stay put, with Manchester City understood to be concentrating on other, even more expensive midfield targets such as Enzo Fernandez and Ayoub Bouaddi.
The window is still open, the market can still jolt without warning, but for the first time this summer Roma can look at their midfield and feel that keeping its core together is the most likely outcome.
