De Zerbi's Stance on Bergvall and Sarr's Future at Tottenham
Roberto De Zerbi has drawn a firm line over Lucas Bergvall’s future – but left the door wide open on Pape Sarr and several of Tottenham’s brightest prospects.
De Zerbi nails down Bergvall stance
With the window ticking towards its September 1 close, Bergvall’s name has been dragged through the rumour mill all summer. De Zerbi, though, was having none of it.
“Lucas Bergvall, 100 per cent,” he said, without hesitation when asked if the midfielder would still be at Spurs after deadline day.
The Italian revealed he had held extensive talks with the youngster during pre-season and made it clear how highly he rates him.
“We spoke a lot in pre-season. He’s a top player with top potential player. I think now that he wants to stay and we have no problem.”
For Bergvall, the message is clear: he is part of the plan, and De Zerbi intends to build with him, not sell him.
Sarr future in the balance amid Galatasaray push
The situation around Pape Sarr is far less settled.
The midfielder has already attracted interest from Brentford and is now the subject of a strong push from Galatasaray, who are working hard to lure him to Turkey.
De Zerbi acknowledged both Sarr’s quality and the uncertainty around his future.
“For Pape, he started pre-season late because he started in Senegal until first week in August, I think,” the Spurs head coach explained. “He’s a good player. I don’t know if he stays or not. We have to analyse the situation. But he is another very, very important player.”
So while Bergvall looks locked in, Sarr sits in that tense space where a club’s admiration meets the realities of the market. Tottenham know his value. So do his suitors.
Moore, loans and the academy production line
Out wide, 19-year-old winger Mikey Moore is another name in the frame. Tipped for another loan move after spending last season at Rangers, he finds himself on the brink of a key decision in his development.
De Zerbi made it clear he likes what he sees.
“I am happy with Mikey Moore,” he said. “He is working well. He is a good player. I don’t know or not if he goes on loan. He has big potential for the club.”
The Italian broadened the lens to include Luca Williams-Barnett and Malachi Hardy, both emerging from the Spurs academy and now pushing for recognition.
“We try to find the best solution for every player we have. Also for Luca Williams-Barnett and Malachi Hardy. Big potentials. We’re proud they come from our academy.”
Between firm commitments, open questions and looming loan calls, De Zerbi’s first window at Tottenham is already drawing the battle lines: who forms the core, who is cashed in on, and which youngsters are trusted to carry the club’s future.
